The story picks up in 1979 as Margaret Thatcher is elected Britain's first female Prime Minister. Under pressure from his family to find a suitable wife, Prince Charles begins dating Lady Diana Spencer.

Olivia Colman is an absolute delight. The acting is all-round magnificent, and the depiction of actual events is often extremely moving. It does also give one a bit more insight into the royal family - you find yourself being a lot more forgiving towards members of the family you previously disregarded or disliked. The depiction of Charles' relationship with Camilla, for instance, is rather heart-breaking. This series has won numerous awards, with good reason.
