HEAVEN VIEWED AS OUR FATHER S HOUSE. already offered some general remarks on the representations of the celestial world, as furnished by the inspired writers, and dilated on the bright and inspiring views which they afford us of the honour, the felicity and the perfection of the disciples of Christ in Paradise, we proceed to observe that it is impossible to take any view of the region of immortality and bliss that is more consoling, more endearing, or even more sublime than that which exhibits it as " our Father's house." If we are real Christians, we love to regard heaven as a Rest, where there shall be nothingto vex, disturb, or ruffle for ever; but where all will be peaceful and serene, " Calm as summer evenings be." We love to view heaven as a Temple, where everything will be glorious in holiness; consecrated to the accomplishment of the purest and sublimest purposes; and where the " General Assembly and Church of the First-born" will meet to celebrate, through eternity, the most august and sacred worship; where the Lord Jesus will be the centre of their union, and where every service will be continually rendered for the advancement of his honour. We love to consider heaven as a City whose foundations are of the firmest kind, " whose walls are salvation, and whose gates are praise;" where the noblest employments engage the attention, where the wisest and holiest laws are observed, and where the purest and most ennobling society is enjoyed. We love to anticipate heaven as " the Paradise of God;" infinitely superior to the Garden of Eden, where verdure of the richestkind will ever be witnessed; where flowers, planted by our gracious Redeemer himself, of the loveliest form and hues, will ever bloom; where the sky will ever be bright and clo...
