The invited guests present were Rear-Admiral C. R. P. Rodgers, Prof. J. M. Rice, Prof. N. M. Terry, and Chief Engineer Farmer. All of the honorary members of the Association had been invited to attend the dinner. The following letters of regret were received from those who were unable to be present, and were read by Admiral Simpson, who presided at the dinner. 1623 H Street, Wash1ngton, D. C., May 9, 1888. My Dear Mr. Secretary: --I am exceedingly grateful for the unfailing offer of hospitality which I again receive from the Council of the U. S. Naval Academy Graduates Association; but in truth, for reasons beyond my control, I am not able to avail myself of it. Most truly yours, Geo. Bancroft. Mr. Secretary T1lley. Off1ce Of The Admtral, Washtngton, D. C., May 11, 1888. My Dear Sir: --I beg leave to acknowledge the receipt of your kind letter of May 8th, inviting me to be present at the third annual dinner of the Naval Academy Association on June 7th. It would afford me great pleasure to be present on so interesting an occasion, but I regret very much that my engagements at tha't time will prevent my accepting your kind invitation.
