Excerpt: ...of the entire craft in the interest of both hand and machine wood carvers, it is absolutely necessary that we claim jurisdiction over the machine carvers; therefore be it Resolved, That this Convention decide on sending a delegate to the next Convention of the American Federation of Labor, instructing him to claim jurisdiction over the machine wood carvers; and be it further Resolved, That this Convention frame such laws as it may deem necessary for the governing of machine carvers and spindle carvers. C. A. GREErING: Detroit Branch wishes to bring before your body the fact of our national working label. Being of poor design and not in keeping with the artistic ability of our craft; therefore. We, the Detroit Branch would recommend that a prize be offered to any member of our association for the best design for said label. No. 9. By the Detroit Branch: To the delegates assembled in convemion. GREETING; Whereas, As we find the Official Journal issued by the Central Committee has not fulfilled its mission, inasmuch as it has failed on many occasions to reach members of local branches, late the following month after its issue, and thereb_v making the official report of state of trade useless to travelling members, on account of the long time which intervened from the time the report sent in from different branches reach them; therefore, Ve, through our delegate recommend the follow ing changes: First--A1l branches shall receive report at their regular meetings held during month, state of trade, number of shops, good 'or dull; each report...
