Household.--A household includes all the persons who occupy a group of rooms or a single room which constitutes a housing unit (see definition of housing unit, below). The average population per household is obtained by dividing the population in households by the number of household heads. The population per household for Negroes and persons of Spanish heritage, shown in tables P-5 and P-7, may not in all cases be a true representation of the household size for these groups. For example, some persons of a given group may be roomers or domestic employees living with household heads of a different ethnic classification. Relationship to head of household.--Four categories of relationship to head of household are recognized in this report: 1. Head of household.--One person in each household is designated as the "head," that is, the person who is regarded as the head by the members of the household. Two types of household heads are distinguished--the head of a family and a primary individual. A family head is a household head living with one or more persons related to him by blood, marriage, or adoption. A primary individual is a household head living alone or with nonrelatives only. 2.
