In my annual report for the fiscal year ending Jnne 30,1894, a full description is given of the railroad facilities at this post which have been acquired by purchase or construction, and by which connection can be made with the Central Kailroad of New Jersey and any other point to or from which shipment may be desired. This railroad has fulfilled all requirements and has proved a source of great convenience and economy, amply repaying all the expenses incurred by the Government in its purchase and construction. The movement of freight over this road began April 25,1894. The amount and character of the shipments to and from this post by this route from the latter date to the close of the fiscal year 1895 may bo summarized as follows: Statement showing kind and weight of United States property received at and shipped from the Sand;/ Hook Proving Ground since opening of railroad on Government reservation, from April So, 1894, to June SO, 1S9S. RECAPITULATION. Founds. Received 6,906,612 Shipped 1, 984,139 Total movement 8,890,751 Number of cars loaded with United States property upon which the Government paid the transportation charges 216 Number of cars loaded with United States property upon which the contractors paid the transportation charges: For the Morgan Engineering Company 17 For the Life-Saving Service 14 For the Pneumatic Gnu Company 15 For the Ordnance Department, United States Army 15 For I.
