Not illustrated. 1840 Excerpt: ...On motion by Mr. Robinson, Ordered, That twenty-five hundred copies of the report of George Plitt to the Postmaster General be printed for the use of the Senate. Mr. Smith, of Indiana, from the Committee on the Judiciary, to whom was referred the petition of a number of the citizens of Ohio, reported a bill (S. 233) to alter one of the terms of the circuit and district courts in Ohio; which was read, and passed to the second reading. Mr. Robinson, from the Committee on the Post Office and Post Roads, to whom the subject was referred, reported a bill (S. 234) to authorize the Postmaster General to settle the claim of William Neil and company; which was read, and passed to the second reading. Mr. Sturgeon, from the Committee on Revolutionary Claims, to whom was referred the bill (S. 130) for the relief of the representatives of Captain William Williams, late of the State of North Carolina, reported it without amendment. Mr. Fulton, from the Committee on Public Lands, to whom was referred the bill (S. 179) granting to the county of Johnson, in the Territory of Iowa, the right of pre-emption to a tract of land for a seat of justice for said county, and repealing the second section of an act approved the 3d day of March, 1839, entitled " An act making a donation of land to the Territory of Iowa, for the purpose of erecting public buildings thereon," reported it without amendment. Agreeably to notice, Mr. Linn asked and obtained leave to bring in a bill (S. 235) granting a pre-emption right to Enoch Evans; which was, read the first and second times, by unanimous consent, and referred to the Committee on Private Land Claims.
