Contrary to predictions that were made when it was organized, to the effect that, after a little burst of energy on the part of its founders and a brief show of enthusiasm on the part of its members, it would die, it still survives and with each passing year gives more certain promise of permanent existence. By recent action of the Board of Regents of the University, the Quarterly now goes to each of the affiliated schools. It can hardly fail to promote at these schools a more accurate knowledge of the history of Texas and a stronger and more intelligent appreciation of its significance and instructiveness. Outside the State, too, interest in the work of the association is growing rapidly. The Quarterly is gradually finding its way into all the great working libraries of America, and it has a large number of valuable exchanges both in this country and in Europe. Among subscriptions for it recently received are those of the libraries of Yale, Cornell, and Leland Stanford, and of others of similar importance. In almost every instance the subscription has been accompanied by an order for the completes file of the Quarterly that can be furnished. This will serve to illustrate what the association is accomplishing. Recent gifts to the association include four numbers of the proceedings of the Texas Veteran Association, from Mrs. Nannie Smithwick Donaldson, of Florence, Texas; a copy of the pamphlet entitled "Defense of General Sidney Sherman against the Charges made by General Sam Houston," from Mr. C.
