Quadrangular Vase, with loops for suspension. Chinese porcelain, covered with a dull green glaze, resembling patinated bronze. Mark, stamped in the seal character, of the period Kea-king, 1796-1821. H. 11 in. PI. III. 28. 726. Sent from Pekin as a specimen of the colour known as Cha-yay-moh yeou, or ground tea-leaf colour. A sumptuary law restricts the use of this colour to the Emperor, to evade which collectors surround specimens with wire, to make them appear hroken, and therefore, according to Chinese notions, worthless.
