Robinson of the Association tell of the progress which has been made on the highway since the movement was first inaugurated at the Conference of the Governors of the eight states through which the highway passes, at Chattanooga, April 3, 1915. Chicago people manifested their interest in the Dixie Highway by turning out in large numbers on Dixie Highway night, when an informal reception was held by the members of the Southern Club and their ladies around the Dixie Highway booth. A movement was started by officials of the Ce ment Show looking toward the construction of a gigantic concrete monument to the Dixie Highway to be erected at some suitable point along the highway, typifying the union of the North and South by the construction of a main highway which brings the two sections closer together. J. G. Prasuhn, the well-known sculptor of Chicago, who assisted Lorado Taft in the modeling The Weyaugewa Cement Co., at Brightwaters, L. I., has purchased the coal yard property of N. E. Smith, at Bayshore, L. L, consisting of 221 feet on the Long Island railroad, upon which is being erected Factory No. 1, of three that will be constructed for the manufacture of various cement products, and composite brick. The plant, when completed, will have cost $20,000 to $25,000, all paid for, and will be ready for operation on April 1. In this shop will be made pressed cement brick, it having a machine capacity of 1,500 brick daily.
