As far as the geology is concerned it may be of some good. 3845. Do you not think if there were specimens and samples of all the metallic substances properly labelled and described, it might guide the miner in his search after mineral wealth?--Yes. The principles upon which the schools of mines in London and on the Continent are established teas described to the witness.' I see the importance of it. Jso doubt there would be a great deal of information derived, but I do not think it would be advisable to put the country to the expense and support of a school of the kind for the information that individual miners would receive. We have never met with that quantity of foreign metals in gold pursuits, except Mclvor and St. Arnaud's, where there is silver and other metals. If they choose to take the trouble there is a means of getting the metals assayed, if any of the miners choose to send it to the township, and at very trifling expense, so that I do not think it would benefit the miners or be worth the expense that it would cost the country.
