In November 2011, Vincent Truman's wife suggested they get separated. Although the couple were experiencing a mildly troubling time, an apparent chasm led his wife to conclude separation was the only viable option. As the separation immediately began to fail and divorce became inevitable, Truman's own sole option was to figure out the why, the when, the how, the where and the what-the-hell. What he discovered was equally infuriating, intolerable and remarkably sad. His wife had become an addict of a video game called Second Life, and there was nothing in real life that could compete with the wish-fulfillment and artificial thrills that the virtual world provided. 'Departnered' is a wake-up call for those who might think the internet is harmless, and a warning for those who might be tempted to dismiss a real world in favor of one you have to log into.
