The Association Between Vitamin D Status and Colon Cancer Risk (Paperback)

Scholarly Research Paper from the year 2013 in the subject Medicine - Neoplasms, Oncology, language: English, abstract: There is evidence suggesting that having healthy vitamin D blood levels reduces colon cancer risk. This paper explores whether the research question: Is there an association between vitamin D status and colon cancer risk is relevant, important and has been answered. The paper briefly summarizes an article entitled The Effect of Diet on Risk of Cancer, which was published in The Lancer in 2002 by Key and colleagues. In particular, the paper underlines vitamin D synthesis and discusses how calcium intake and/or levels of other micronutrients in the body might interact with the association between vitamin D status and the risk of developing colon cancer. Although it is recommended to use two-tailed hypothesis, the paper compares and contrasts one-tailed and two-tailed hypotheses. It also specifies the healthy and critical levels of vitamin D. It further discusses future research directions and presents the conclusions drawn in the last section.
