The Inspectors of the State Prison in New York, Respectfully Report--That the accounts of the prison, for the year ending on the 31st October, 1823, have been closed, and in conformity to law, have been sent by the agent to the comptroller. P. guards 50,329 52 cash received 42,697 32 inventories 42,420 92 sales 49,502 20 abstract of purchases 44,815 24 debts due the agent, 16,677 30 debts due by the agent 4,209 30 An account current, with the vouchers, and a statement of the avails of each factory accompanies this report. To give a view of its progress, with a reference to former reports, the following table is submitted, The nett gain of the factories for the year ending Colls. Cents. 31st October, 1821 28,417 58 do. 1822 30,572 20 do. 1823 35,636 56 Under the head of support and clothing, are included all the expenses of the institution, with the exception of the support of the guard, and the salaries of such officers as are provided for by law. To balance of account, support, and clothing for the year ending--Soils. Cents. October 31st, 1821...... 31,737 22 do. 31st, 1822 30,923 61 do. 31st, 1823 35,568 59 As the increase of prisoners, repairs to the building, and the expense of fixtures, are important items in the above gross amounts, it is only by a reference to the general account of the agent, and that the profits of the institution can be correctly known.
