Excerpt: ... BIOGRAPHY GRADUATES PAUL WHITIN ABBOTT Was born December 5, 1860, at Uxbridge, Mass. When he was five years old he went to Yarmouth, Me., and lived there for ten years. He then spent two years at the Dansville Seminary, Dansville, N. Y., and from 1877 to 1880 was at Hopkins Grammar School, New Haven, Conn. After career--After graduation he entered the Boston Institute of Technology for a course in electrical engineering, but was obliged to leave, owing to severe trouble with his eyes. For several years he was associated with William Stearns & Company, wholesale grocers in Boston, and later engaged in the real estate, stock and brokerage business. He writes: "I got a very bad knockout in 1891, was in the hospital in a dark room all that summer, and afterward, in the same kind of room for pretty much all the winter that followed. That put me out of the running for ten years, and the picking up of the threads since has been too slow and tedious to be of interest to others. In a general way, I can say that, during these years, I have traveled back and forth across this continent and into the wilds a number of times in pursuit of the elusive dollar: have had him fairly nearly corraled several times, apparently a pretty good ring around him; but, in some way, a gap seemed to have been discovered. Fickle fortune is a wary bird." He is a member of the University and Yale clubs of Boston. Family--September 9, 1902, he married Miss Lila S. Whitin of Whitinsville, Mass. Home address--293 Commonwealth Avenue, Boston, Mass. Business address--19 Congress Street, Boston, Mass. JOHN ALPHEUS ALLEN Was born October 19, 1863, at Hebron, Me. He is the eighth in descent from Samuel Allen, who settled in Braintree, Mass., in 1630, and whose daughter married the son of Miles ...
