The history of the Pacific Northwest is rife with stories of conflict between loggers and environmentalists, indigenous peoples and government-backed corporations. Many of them have ended in violence, arrests, and clear-cutting. Farm License 38, which encompasses Sims Creek in the upper Elaho Valley, became the site of a wholly different kind of protest between 1997 and 2007. Because of the actions of ten thousand people brought together by Squamish Nation Hereditary Chief Bill Williams, artist Nancy Bleck, and the late mountaineer John Clarke, this land -- a 50,000-hectare section of the Squamish First Nation now known as Wild Spirit Places -- was saved. Picturing Transformation is the story of Uts'am/Witness, a series of camping weekends held at Sims Creek that brought together indigenous and non-indigenous people to walk, sleep, eat, make art, have conversations, and participate in ceremonies on this disputed land. Through the words and photos of those who attended, this beautiful book pays homage to the power that people with strong vision and a common purpose can play in honoring tradition, safeguarding land, and changing policy. It is a lesson in the possibilities for resolving conflict peacefully, now and in the future."
Most histories of the Civil War focus on battles and top brass. "Hardtack and Coffee" is one of the few to give a vivid, detailed picture of what ordinary soldiers endured every day--in camp, on the march, at the edge of a booming, smoking hell. John D. Billings of Massachusetts enlisted in the Army of the Potomac and curvived the conditions he recorded. The authenticity of his book is heightened by the many drawings that a comrade, Charles W. Reed, made in the field. This is the story of how the Civil War soldier was recruited, provisioned, and disciplined. Described here are the types of men found in any outfit; their not very uniform uniforms; crowded tents and makeshift shelters; difficulties in keeping clean, warm, and dry; their pleasure in a cup of coffee; food rations, dominated by salt pork and the versatile cracker or hardtack; their brave pastimes in the face of death; punishments for various offenses; treatment in sick bay; firearms and signals and modes of transportation. Comprehensive and anecdotal, " Hardtack and Coffee" is striking for the pulse of life that runs through it.

This is a record of the achievements of Sir Sidney Hamburger in the Jewish community of Manchester, the City of Salford and the North-West region. As chairman of the Planning and Finance Committees of Salford City Council, leader of the Labour Group on the City Council and mayor of Salford during 1968-69, he played a leading role in the post-war reconstruction of the city. As chairman of the North Western Regional Health Authority between 1973 and 1982, he presided over the reorganization of the National Health Service in the region. As a communal activist and a leading Zionist, Sir Sidney steered the Jewish community of Manchester through the social and political upheavals of the post-war years. In all his achievements he derived his idealism from an Orthodox Judaism to which he was strictly committed.
Although he spent his career as a lawyer and law school professor, Derrick Bell had a profound impact on the field of education in the area of educational equity. Among many accomplishments, Bell was the first African American to earn tenure at the Harvard Law School; he also established a new course in civil rights law and produced what has become a famous casebook: Race, Racism, and American Law. The man who could rightly be called, "The Father of Critical Race Theory," Bell was an innovator who did things with the law that others had not thought possible. This volume highlights Bell's influence on a number of prominent education and legal scholars by identifying some of his specific work and how they have used it to inform their own thinking and practice. What is contained here is an assemblage of contributors with deep commitments to the path-breaking work of Derrick Bell - a scholar, a teacher, an activist, a mentor, and a covenant keeper.

Every step can be duplicated, no matter what type of professional practice employs them; they are universal truths, not just unique-to-dentistry concepts. Endorsements by dental luminaries such as Dr Mike Abernathy of Summit Practice Solutions, Dr Bruce Baird of The Productive Dentist Academy, Dr Chris Kammer of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, Dr Bill Blatchford of Blatchford Solutions, and Gary Takacs, founder of Takacs Learning Center all point to one common recommendation: "This book is a must get, must read and must apply book if you want a thriving professional practice in today's economic climate." All of this would never have been possible without the inspiration and guidance of Dr Williams' main mentor, Dr Omer Reed of Phoenix, AZ. Dr Reed opens this book with his Forward that provides contextual congruity, defines how it all came to be and why this book is important. Reed says that "When the paradigm shifts, everyone starts at the beginning" and in the case of this generation, "Marketing has come a long way. The paradigm has shifted "
When Bill Williams was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, he gained the purpose to life while learning how to die, observing each circumstance in light of the cross. He shared the progression of his physical and spiritual path with friends and family in a series of inspiring emails. Each missive contains a "Points to Ponder" section, scripture, and Christian quotes. With passion, piety, and self-reflection these intimate letters offer reassurance and insight to anyone who is navigating through challenging times. Regardless of the circumstances you're struggling with, whether divorce, job loss, death, disease or other illness, you'll find comfort in the way God gave this man the strength to live out his last days in peace and joy that only Christ can give. Viewing his terminal illness through the lens of God's Word not only allowed Bill to face the reality of his grave disease but also thank God for the lessons he learned through cancer. This made all the difference in the last three years of his life and has profoundly affected numerous individuals. Life is but a breath when compared to eternity. Before you can adequately be prepared to live, you must be adequately prepared to die.

This book is a novel approach to the age-old "Earth Meets Alien" story. The totally benevolent, highly advanced Belarians want the people of Earth to continue their mission of seeking life throughout the galaxy.
A quantum leap in spaceflight capability set the Belarians on a journey, the scope of which even they did not realize for many years. Warp drive, having been a scientific theory for more than 2,000 years, became a reality. The Belarians were now able to explore vast volumes of the galaxy in only a few hundred years. But the galaxy is too vast for just a few dozen ships to explore. The scope of the "Belarian Initiative" needed to be greatly expanded. The new Initiative provided for the design and construction of 500 multi-generational, warp-driven starships. The paramount goal, the "Prime Objective," was to find intelligent, benevolent life with which the Belarians could communicate and share cultures and technology.
The year is 2008 and Bill Weller, a 46 year-old NASA engineer at Kennedy Space Center, is about to meet an alien, Capt. Kroy, who will offer him an unbelievable opportunity. The Belarians have selected him to become the next Captain of the Belarian starship. Why did they choose him? What makes him qualified to Captain a 10-mile diameter starship? Who will he choose to help him? What adventures await him and his new Senior Officers?
Bill Weller and his 12,000-member Earth crew will explore the Milky Way Galaxy and discover the "Fountain," an artificially created system of 7,000,000 wormholes leading to millions of galaxies throughout the universe. Will they find the aliens who created the Fountain? Where are they now? What artifacts and clues did they leave behind for others to find?
Join Bill and his Earth crew as they explore the Milky Way Galaxy, the Andromeda Galaxy, many strange and beautiful planets, and must deal with missile attacks and political turmoil here at home before beginning their mission.

Profile of a Country Boy entices the reader from beginning to end with poignant anecdotes pulled from Bill Williams' nostalgic recollections of a life begun in 1923 in deep East Texas, continued in the High Plains of Texas, then all the way across the Pacific in the U.S. Air Force as a bomber pilot in 1943. In a warm and delightfully humorous way, the author draws the reader right into his life story. While the author thinks of himself as "just a simple country boy" it becomes clear as one reads on that, on the contrary, he is a man of extraordinary character who loves God and his family more than life itself.
