"Elizabeth Hutchison's latest edition of Dimensions of Human Behavior is a powerful text that captures our changing and developing lives as we each journey through our own distinct life course. The books calls our attention to the importance of the interactions of time, people, and environment as our ongoing life story is played out. As social workers, this text draws our attention to the need to better understand development as a cyclical process, unique for each person. Timely client system examples, diverse family development, and good social work implications and interventions are a few of the many strengths in this edition."
--Susan Tebb, Dean, School of Social Service, Saint Louis University

This Two-Volume Kit is composed of Person and Environment, Second Edition (ISBN: 0761987657) and The Changing Life Course, Second Edition (ISBN: 0761987649). Each is also available individually for $49.95.

Dimensions of Human Behavior, Second Edition: Person and Environment presents the time-honored person-in-environment approach to understanding human behavior. It provides a multi-theoretical analysis to help students recognize and examine the multiple dimensions of person and environment involved in human behavior. Like the first edition, the general approach of weaving powerful case studies with theory and research has been maintained, but all chapters have been updated to reflect recent census data, emerging social trends, and new developments in theory and research. This edition also pays greater attention to human diversity.

Dimensions of Human Behavior, Second Edition: The Changing Life Course presents a life course perspective to help students recognize how multiple dimensions of person and environment work together with dimensions of time to produce patterns in unique life course journeys. It examines general patterns of human behavior in age-graded periods, sources of diversity in life course trajectories, and unique life stories. It is multidimensional in scope and current in theory and research. This completely revised second edition maintains the use of case studies to help students appreciate the diversity of life course trajectories, and all chapters have been updated to reflect social trends and new developments in theory and research.

To reflect the trend toward finer gradations in life phases, this edition addresses nine age-graded periods instead of the six presented in the first edition: Conception, Pregnancy, and Birth; Infancy and Toddlerhood; Early Childhood; Middle Childhood; Adolescence; Young Adulthood; Middle Adulthood; Late Adulthood; and Very Late Adulthood.

The Teaching Resources CD-ROM (ISBN: 0-7619-8804-1) accompanying the texts provides a variety of supplementary materials. The CD includes a summary of each chapter in both texts. In addition, individual and group activities of relevance to chapter topics are proposed, as are selected readings, texts, videos and films. Also included are subjects for class discussion, as well as essay and multiple choice questions that challenge students' cognitive abilities of recall, reasoning, and application of social work theories, principles and practice issues.

Visible Infrared Imager Radiometer Suite - A New Operational Cloud Imager (Hardcover): Keith D. Hutchison, Arthur P. Cracknell Visible Infrared Imager Radiometer Suite - A New Operational Cloud Imager (Hardcover)
Keith D. Hutchison, Arthur P. Cracknell
R4,286 Discovery Miles 42 860 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The Visible Infrared Imager Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) is the next-generation multispectral imaging instrument to fly on US operational, polar-orbiting meteorological satellites. VIIRS will gather data across 22 spectral bands and be used to create products for a variety of applications including weather forecasting and climate change studies. VIIRS consolidates the best features of heritage instruments, including near-constant resolution and nighttime visible imagery. Visible Infrared Imager Radiometer Suite: A New Operational Cloud Imager provides the first comprehensive guide on the design and exploitation of cloud data collected by the VIIRS. Expert researchers Hutchison and Cracknell discuss the fundamental principles necessary to interpret surface and cloud features in multispectral meteorological satellite imagery. They begin by tracing the evolution of satellite meteorology and detailing previous instruments on which VIIRS is based. Next, they examine the user requirements for VIIRS data products and the studies used to convert these requirements into sensor design parameters. The focus then shifts to the principles and techniques used to exploit VIIRS cloud data. The book ends with a comprehensive discussion of automated processes to retrieve 3-dimensional cloud fields from a variety of algorithms, some of which were developed for the VIIRS. Supplying material for both experienced researchers and those new to the field, Visible Infrared Imager Radiometer Suite is a must-read for anyone interested in evaluating and using the data gathered from the VIIRS project.

Challenges of Living - A Multidimensional Working Model for Social Workers (Paperback): Elizabeth D. Hutchison, Holly C. Matto,... Challenges of Living - A Multidimensional Working Model for Social Workers (Paperback)
Elizabeth D. Hutchison, Holly C. Matto, Marcia P. Harrigan, Leanne Wood Charlesworth, Pamela A. Viggiani
R1,632 Discovery Miles 16 320 Ships in 7 - 11 working days

The book provides a working model for social workers to integrate the most up-to-date evidence about challenges of living encountered in their daily practice. Using a multidimensional biopsychosocial-spiritual perspective, the book examines etiology, course, and intervention strategies related to 8 challenges of living. The book presents a range of theories of causation and brings together the most recent interdisciplinary research on risk and protective factors in each chapter. Of particular note are the up-to-date and accessible coverage of biological risk and protective factors, the emphasis on how each challenge of living is experienced across diverse identity groups, and intervention strategies across primary, secondary, and tertiary intervention modes. Chapter 1 lays out the dimensions of the working model. Chapter 2 begins with four life stories that social workers could encounter; these stories are used throughout the book to illuminate contemporary knowledge about selected challenges of living. Chapter 2 also provides a fresh discussion of the processes by which social workers move from knowing that to knowing how, focusing on knowledge about the case, knowledge about the self, values and ethics, and general knowledge form the behavioral sciences.
