(Schott). Carl Orff devoted much of his life to music for children. His pioneering work continues under the guidance of teachers and educators in many countries. The five basic German volumes of "Music for Children" by Carl Orff and Gunild Keetman were published between 1950 and 1954. The considerable growth of Orff-Schulwerk in the United States led to the publication of the American Edition (1977) to satisfy the requirements of a different educational system and national heritage. Music for Children is a stimulating source of material for music teaching. Contents of this fourth volume: Songs and pieces using the full range of the Aeolian, Dorian and Phrygian modes. Twice Shy tells the story of two strangers who have shut themselves down emotionally as a way to cope with their lives. Bob is an artist with a creative block who loses himself in an aimless existence; while Casey suffers from deep-seated anxiety and feelings of abandonment. Brought together through an unexpected circumstance, they begin to open up and trust each other, gradually finding that their fears of being hurt are overcome by the simple joys that they now share. As they tentatively try to build a life together, the harsh realities of the outside world begin to intrude on their happiness, but the experience changes them both in fundamental ways.
(Schott). Carmina Burana, first performed in 1937, is based on an important collection of thirteenth-century poems found in the monastery of Benediktbeuren. Carl Orff made selections from this collection and in robust and delicate musical colors painted a manifold picture of life. "Everything I have written up to now, and which you have unfortunately printed, you can shred into pulp. My collected works begin with 'Carmina Burana'." Carl Orff wrote to his publisher after the premiere. And so it was that his work caused a sensation in the whole world and continues to delight people of all cultures. The 'Carmina Burana' is written for solo singers, chorus and orchestra.
