In an incredible career that has spanned three decades, Thomas Chauke has become the most recognisable face of Xitsonga traditional music. Hes currently in the studio working on Shimatsatsa No. 30 to be released in 2011 and celebrating a remarkable career that has kept Xitsonga music alive and thriving. Just recently, the University of Venda awarded a Doctor of Philosophy degree on this icon of the genre. Speaking at Saselamani Stadium during celebrations for the musician on Saturday, the Director of Research at the University of South Africa, Prof Tinyiko Maluleke, said Chauke was being given the honour for his promotion of the Xitsonga language.
